Our Team of Heidi Hack sponsored by the Winchester Rotary Club, Gavin Derrick sponsored by the Southampton Rotary Club, Ian Davies sponsored. by the Portsmouth & Southsea Rotary Club and Mark Turner sponsored by the Southampton Rotary Club & led by John Bronsdon from the Southampton Rotary Club flew off to India on the 6th February for 4 weeks.
They are all Environmentalists and the programme prepared by District 3130 is designed to show them how India is tackling the major problems of pollution, waste etc., as well giving them an in depth experience of the culture and history of that part of the world.
Heidi works for Hampshire County Council as an advisor on environmental matters to the Council Gavin is an environmental health officer in Southampton Council. He checks on anything from dirty kitchens in restaurants to noise problems.
Ian works for Portsmouth Water and drills holes all over the place looking for water --even in this weather !! Mark works for Southampton University as an environmental engineer designing energy efficient mechanical building services -- ask Bakkr !
The team started their tour with a presentation at the District Conference in Goa in front of 2400 delegates which was a great hit . They now can settle down to a whirlwind tour of Maharashtra State which includes Bombay and Pune making a few notes on the way so that we can all be entertained at the welcome home dinner on the 19th April. (--for tickets see David Holt)
Oh by the way Anil is my opposite number in District 3130. Anil has organised the programme for our team with the help of Shekhar who led the team from India that visited us in September/October 2001.
It's dead easy over there !!
